New app alert: Trigger Journal ✏️
Check out my submission to Gemini API Developer Competition!
Often, when I explain the idea of this app, the reaction that I get from people is “Oh, I actually have an issue like that, and I don’t know why it’s happening”. And the “why it’s happening” part is exactly the problem our new app “Trigger Journal” is trying to solve. But let’s start with the beginning.
One day, Alex woke up with a skin rash that apparently appeared out of nowhere. He never had allergies or intolerances before, and of course, the first thing was to go to the doctor. Unfortunately, that never solved the problem. Allergists and dermatologists did all kinds of tests, even supposed a gluten intolerance, but it was never actually confirmed. Thinking and talking about this situation made us think of how useful it would be to have an app, where you could track all kinds of daily activities that could potentially trigger the condition and have a visually helpful analysis, that would lead you to uncovering the root cause. And that’s how “Trigger Journal” was added to the backlog of apps that we want to create.
Time went by, we were building other apps, and then Gemini API Developer Competition was announced, so we thought it would be a great motivation booster to finally build the app for the competition (you know how motivating deadlines can be 😂). So that’s exactly what we did 😁
TLDR; If you want to learn more details, keep reading. If not, I’m excited to announce that you can now vote for “Trigger Journal” for the People’s Choice Awards! It would mean a lot to me if you do that 🙂 You can vote here: https://ai.google.dev/competition/projects/trigger-journal

The way our app works is very simple:
You describe a “condition” that you want to track, by providing the title, description, and an icon.
This description is then passed to Gemini AI, which based on that, offers a list of potential triggers for such a condition. The potential triggers are selected from a predefined list, and you can also specify your custom triggers.
Every day you log two things: first, whether the condition has happened, and second, all the triggers that occurred that day.
Based on this information, Gemini AI provides an analysis of the most likely cause, suggests other data to log, and gives recommendations on how to handle it. Of course, it is always important to keep in mind that this is AI and all the recommendations should be confirmed with your doctor.
There is also a calendar view, which visually helps you understand the correlation between the triggers and the condition.
Of course, skin rash is just one example. You can track and uncover whatever else is bothering you, from physiological issues such as rashes, acne, headaches, and stomachaches, or psychological ones, such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and so on. I’m really excited to see how this app can help real people solve their real problems and live a more enjoyable and healthy life. We plan to release this app in stores by the end of September, so if you’re interested in trying it out, be sure to stay subscribed to this newsletter and follow me on Twitter. And once again, I would be very grateful for your vote!
